In November 2024 BATS will put on stage a classic in the English-speaking theatre repertoire: “Wyrd Sisters”, by Stephen Briggs, based on the book with the same name by Terry Pratchett.

Pratchett is a name which is usually associated with the Discworld series of books, providing a tongue-in-cheek view of a universe filled with clever and funny situations and characters, and of course carried by elephants and one giant turtle. Some of these books were turned into plays, of which “Wyrd Sisters” is one. The story is loosely based on Shakespeare’s Macbeth with numerous references to his other plays, but with a central role for the three witches.

When the kingdom of Lancre is shocked to find out the king has passed away in mysterious circumstances, three witches find themselves in the centre of a conspiracy. Reluctant to get involved, they nevertheless uncover the true nature of things and aim to set these things right.

What follows is a play that quickly develops in a funny and entertaining swashbuckle tale with a new take on some of Shakespeare’s most known characters.
